A young woman came to the clinic in Queens where I was working. She had been pregnant with twins the previous year and had lost the babies. She wanted very badly to get pregnant again but had been unable to conceive for the past eight months.
Her basic resources were good, she was young and strong, so we gave her a deeply nourishing and supportive treatment to help her become strong and secure enough to become pregnant again. I chose the first of the Eight Extra Meridians, called Chong Mai, which is the mother of all the other meridians. Tonifying Chong helps increase blood and Qi (energy), and after two treatments, the young woman was thrilled to have become pregnant once again.
A male patient had never had acupuncture before. He wanted treatment for a bad cold or perhaps flu that he felt coming on. He had been preparing for an exhibition of his art, and needed to feel better right away.
He had a Floating pulse in the Lung position, but was otherwise fairly healthy, so I put needles beside the outer edge of his little finger and little toe nails. This is a Tai Yang Sinew Meridian treatment. Within 15 minutes his sniffles, stuffy head and cough were gone. He was very tired, so he went home, fell into bed, and felt fine throughout his long, busy weekend.
The patient was a tall, leggy former dancer now in her 80s. She complained of feeling unsteady when walking. Her shoulders went to the right, her hips to the left and her knees to the right, putting her about 15 degrees off a horizontal axis.
She was given a series of Bladder Divergent Meridian treatments once a week over a course of six weeks to work on straightening her spine. After the sixth treatment, she was observed by the clinic staff to be walking with a steady, secure gait, and her shoulders, hips and knees were now evenly balanced, left to right, level with the horizontal plane.
